Too Spoiled to Spot Silk?

Those of us who have been in the industry for many years remember cutting our teeth at the spotting board handling silk, acetate and rayon formal-wear and wedding gowns. Removing stains and soils from these fabrics was a real challenge. Silk, acetate and rayon combinations were often heavily sized with a water-sensitive sizing. Removing water-soluble stains and soils often disturbed the water-sensitive sizing, resulting in rings that could be more difficult to handle than the original stains and soils. But spotters learned how to handle these problems and were successful after lots of trial, error and hard work.
