Three VMAQ-2 EA-6Bs delivered to AMARG

AS THE end of the EA-6B Prowler in US military service approaches, three aircraft from the type's last operational US Marine Corps unit, Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron (VMAQ) 2 'Death Jesters', have been retired from service. The aircraft, 163045 'CY-00', 162934 'CY-01' and 163032 'CY-03', passed through Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, for a fuel stop on November 28-29 while making their final flights from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, to Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona. There they were handed over to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group to be placed in desert storage. These were the last Prowlers to be placed in desert storage with AMARG. The other three EA-6Bs remaining with VMAQ-2 at Cherry Point (162230 'CY-02', 162228 'CY-04' and 163047 'CY-05') are all earmarked for preservation in museums or as gate guards at Marine Corps bases on the east coast. A 'Sundown Ceremony' at Cherry Point for the EA-6B and VMAQ-2 on March 8 will mark the end of the type's USMC service.
