摘要

This article has shown the ways in which APLA combatants engaged in criminal activities that they considered to be political actions. However, it is argued that the line between normal crime and politically motivated crime was very blurred. The focus of the narratives presented here contributes to an understanding that the current representation of ex-combatants as criminals is historical and can be traced back to the fight against apartheid. The ideology of the apartheid struggle tends to live on in the present. However, the only distinction is that in post-apartheid South Africa, crime committed by ex-combatants is delegitimised.
