Veteran banker Segun Aina makes a comeback via Odu'a Investment

With his 11 May appointment as president of the Odu'a Investment Company, a parastatal fund for regions in southwest Nigera, Segun Aina (also known as Olusegun Aina) has returned to the country's financial scene after a long detour in the world of fintech. Odu'a is the economic arm of the states of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and of national powerhouse Lagos. Established in 1976 by the state-owned Western Nigeria Development Corp, the fund has holdings in a range of industries, including construction, through Lafarge Africa; cocoa, through Cocoa Industries; hospitality, through the Lagos Airport Hotel; real estate, through Wemabod Estates; and banking, through Wema Bank. Aina spent the first part of his career in banking, serving as executive director of Ecobank in the 1990s and then CEO of Fountain Trust Bank from 1998 to 2004, before this bank merged with five others to form Spring Bank in 2006.
