The 2018 midterm elections marked another step forward for cannabis legalization in the United States. In Michigan, voters passed Proposal 1, making Michigan the first Midwestern state to legalize recreational cannabis use, and voters in Utah and Missouri passed measures legalizing medical cannabis. With these results, 10 states plus the District of Columbia have now legalized cannabis for recreational and medical purposes, and another 22 states have legalized cannabis for medical purposes only.1
