A Microcomputer Based Management Control System in the Operating Suite

The management of the operating room function requires the control and monitoring of all medical, nursing and ancillary services. At the present cost to operate and staff these facilities, optimal utilization is imperative and can only be achieved through efficient coordination of all operational variables. The paper describes the development of a microcomputer-based management system to monitor and control room turnaround and delay time, resulting in a projected annual reduction of $215,000 in variable operating expenses, and expand the utilization capacity of the operating rooms.
