Analysis on the Symbolism of“Rocking-horse”in The Rocking-Horse Winner: An Inevitable Tragedy

This thesis expounds the relevance between the symbol of rocking-horse and inevitability of the tragedy. Preceded with asynopsis of the story, the symbolisms of the rocking-horse from the protagonist's perspective are presented, namely a way to earnluck, a channel to release pressure, and a means to compel attention. Crucially, detailed explanations are given regarding how eachsymbolic meaning is linked to the character's denouement. Via concluding the significance of the adoption of symbolism, the thesisaims to reveal how the symbol of rocking-horse serves to highlight the story's theme that a lack of love in the pursuit of materialismleads to the distortion and destruction of humanity.
