Objective: To investigate the correlation between the matrix metalloproteinase-11 (MMP-11) expres-sion in tumor cells and clinicopathological features, and to evaluate whether MMP-11 expression was a predictor for prognosis in invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. Method In this study, 285 cases of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) patients were enrolled from 2005 to 2008, and tumor specimens were collected. MMP-11 expression in tumor cells was assessed by immunohistochemical staining, while all clinical data and follow-up information of each patient were collected. Subsequently, log-rank test was applied to evaluate the correlation between IDC MMP-11 expression and clinicopathological features, and the relationship between MMP-11 expression and prognosis was also assessed. Result Tumor MMP-11 expression was significantly correlated with the presence of distant breast cancer metastases (P<0.01). No significant correlation was found between tumor MMP-11 expression and other clinicopathological pa-rameters (P>0.05). Univariate analysis showed that tumor MMP-11 expression, tumor histological grade, vascular in-vasion, axillary lymph node metastasis, tumor stage and Ki67 expression were significantly associated with patient disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in IDC (P<0.05), and tumor size was only significantly associat-ed with patient DFS (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that MMP-11 expression in tumor cells was an indepen-dent factor affecting DFS rather than OS. Conclusion MMP-11 expression in tumor cells is closely associated with IDC prognosis and may serve as a potential predictor for prognosis.%目的：研究MMP-11在乳腺浸润性导管癌细胞的表达情况，探讨MMP-11的表达与乳腺癌临床指标及乳腺癌预后的相关性。方法收集2005年1月至2008年12月被诊断为浸润性导管癌的患者285例。应用免疫组织化学染色法评估MMP-11在肿瘤细胞中的表达情况，并收集患者的相关临床资料及随访资料。评价MMP-11在乳腺癌中的表达情况及与临床特征的相关性，并分析MMP-11的表达与乳腺癌预后的关系。结果MMP-11在肿瘤细胞中的阳性表达率为88.8%。MMP-11在肿瘤细胞中的表达与远处转移具有显著相关性（P＜0.01）。MMP-11在肿瘤细胞中的表达和其他临床特征之间无相关性（均P＞0.05）。单因素分析结果显示，MMP-11在肿瘤细胞中的表达、组织学分级、脉管瘤栓、腋窝淋巴结转移情况、临床分期及Ki67的表达均与无病生存时间（disease-free survival，DFS）和总生存率（overall survival，OS）有相关性（均P＜0.05），而肿瘤大小仅与DFS有相关性（P＜0.05）。多因素分析结果显示，MMP-11在肿瘤细胞中的表达为DFS的独立影响因素。结论 MMP-11在肿瘤细胞中的表达与乳腺癌预后的关系密切，对于预测预后意义重大。
