At the same time, they are the core of her novel. However, the feeling of“desolation”is not only because the story is tragic, but also because they come from the whole text between the lines and the author’s personal factors out of the compositions. This article sets out from two angles:the works and the author, analyzing various reasons for Eileen Chang’s novels’bleakness, thus showing Eileen Chang and her novels’original parts and beauty. First of all, this article explores the skills of Eileen Chang’s novels’desolation from six viewpoints:the distance of the title, the distance of the story, the secular’s approach, the lack of completeness in characters, the hints of images, and the hiding of the creator. Secondly, it reveals Eileen Chang’s own experience in the formation of the desolation in her works from the perspective of the accumulation of Chinese and Western cultures and the desolation of life experience.
