Urban landscape tree species selection plays an important role in urban greening and should be paid more attention. There is no landscape tree species planning in foreign countries. Instead, they compile tree selection guide handbook or tree character list to guide tree species selection and application. The principle, selection criteria and the way of tree selection guide in foreign countries were analyzed. By comparing with Chinese tree selection procedure, 2 problems were indicated: 1. The principle of "right tree for right place"is too macroscopic, and more knowledge was need when implementing in specific sites, so it's hard to follow. 2. The lack or incomplete of related basic data and research of landscape trees result in the difficulty of guiding the practical items. The following is proposed for learning from foreign countries: 1. The principle of right tree for the right place focus on sites and making tree selection criteria according to different sites; 2.The recommended tree list contains detailed information of every species to facilitate the landscape architects to grasp. Finally the suggestion that each city should have its tree selection guide or tree species information base under the tree species planning in China country was proposed to ensure the implementation of the tree species planning.%城市园林树种选择关系到城市绿化建设的成败,如何正确选择城市园林树种值得深入探讨.国外没有类似我国城市树种规划类型的文件,他们通过制定城市树种选择指导手册或树种特性表等实现对城市树种选择和应用的指导.研究分析了国外城市树种选择指导的原则、选择指标和指导方式,并与我国城市树种选择相关内容进行比较,认为我国树种选择中存在2个主要问题:1)“适地适树”原则过于宏观,设计师在具体环境中应用时难以贯彻；2)城市园林植物的基础研究不够,研究成果分散,因此对城市树种选择支撑力度不强.我国可从国外城市树种选择指导中2点借鉴:1)适地适树原则针对小环境具体化,根据不同环境制定树种选择指标；2)推荐使用的城市树种名录包含每种树的全部信息,方便从业人员掌握.最后建议我国应该在现行树种规划层面下研制各城市树种选择指导手册或城市树种信息库,以提高在城市具体环境下树种选择的科学性,保证城市树种规划的贯彻执行.
