This is a collection of short stories and one novel-in-progress whose primary elements are those of setting and the theme of an outsider trying to fit in. In each story the reader will recognize a strong sense of place. Whether the setting is Texas or California, the language and descriptive scenes impress the reader with their sense of surrounding detail. This attention to setting not only creates a strong framework for each story, but also allows the author to use setting as a device in the story to enhance action, thought, reaction, or speech.;Each story's protagonist faces some conflict that must be resolved. Whether to stay in a cage with a gorilla, or to let a husband keep dogs, each character must examine his own boundaries and the willingness or unwillingness to protect those boundaries.
