The aesthetics of Wang Wei's poetry and Chan Buddhism.

摘要

Wang Wei (699-761) was 1 of the 3 most prominent mid-Tang (Zhong Tang) poets. He has the eyes of a Chan practioner. His works express quietude and contemplation. We may obtain a sense of harmony and peace by reading his poems. He has used significant Chan terminology, such as emptiness, purity, quietness, and cleanliness many times in his poems. Themes related to fundamental Chan teachings also appear in his poetry: emptiness, white clouds, non-rebirth, monks, and nature, to name a few. By using this terminological and thematic methodology to analyze patterns in Wang Wei's poetry, we may have a better understanding of his poems and thoughts. An in depth study and analysis of the variations of his thematic and philosophical voices, this thesis is intended to render a further appreciation and examination of Wang Wei's aesthetic accomplishment and his profound philosophical implication.
