目的论视角下《三国演义》军事术语英译研究——以罗慕士译本和邓罗译本为例

摘要

《三国演义》是公认的中国第一部章回体历史小说，被称为中国四大名著之一。它不仅在国内享有盛誉，还作为首部拥有完整英译本的中国古典小说驰名海外。
　　三国时期是中国历史上最为动荡的年代之一，立足于此的《三国演义》对这段历史时期的战事进行了精彩描写。在将该小说译为外文时，译者需要考虑如何处理书中具有中国古代特色的军事术语。这些军事术语深深植根于中国传统文化，有可能成为翻译的障碍，对其文化背景迥异于原文作者的别国译者尤为如此。鉴于此原因，本研究选取《三国演义》的两个完整英译本作为研究材料，其一为邓罗所译，其二为罗慕士所译，总结具有一定普适性的军事术语翻译策略，为后续同类翻译实践提供参考。
　　本文作者以翻译目的论为视角，对两译本的军事术语翻译策略进行了对比分析，以便探求不同策略倾向背后的深层原因。结论如下:从目的原则的角度看，两译者基于各自目的，在忠实原则和连贯原则间做出了不同选择。罗慕士译本是学术项目成果，在形式和内容上都更加贴近原文，异化程度更高，近乎完美地体现了忠实原则;而邓罗译本在行文上则更加流畅自然，显现出一定的归化倾向，符合连贯原则的要求。作为学术翻译的典范，罗慕士译本多采用文后加注等翻译策略补全原文信息，旨在为其目标读者提供丰富的背景知识，加深外国读者对中国文化的了解;邓罗译本则多采用省译、意译等翻译策略简化原文信息，意在为目标读者创造轻松无阻的阅读体验，提高译本的接受度。在翻译中国古代军事术语时，两译者的方法各有可取之处。翻译工作者应灵活运用不同翻译策略，根据目的论原则，或者在最大程度上保留原文特色，或者充分考虑外语读者的接受程度，或者二者兼顾，以便翻译出符合“让中国文化走出去”国策的翻译佳作，实现有效输出中国文化的目的。
