汉语专有名词英译研究——以《红楼梦》中大观园园林景点名为例

摘要

专有名词翻译研究一直未能得到应有的重视，学界更注重研究英语专有名词汉译情况，而汉语专有名词英译研究则倍受冷落。然而，专有名词有相当大一部分植根于深厚的本土文化之中，系统地规范汉语专有名词英译，尤其是涉及文化背景的汉语专名英译，对传播和弘扬我国传统文化显然有着不可或缺的积极作用。因此，本论文旨在研究汉语专有名词尤其是文学作品中的汉语专名英译情况。
　　 本文以《红楼梦》及其两个英文全译本，即杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇译本和霍克斯、闵福德翁婿译本为研究对象，以彼得·纽马克的语义翻译和交际翻译理论为基础，作者借助冯其庸、李希凡的《红楼梦大辞典》，利用绍兴文理学院开发的《红楼梦》汉英平行语料库，使用微软文本数据处理软件，统计了《红楼梦》中大观园园林景点及其英译名称的翻译策略使用情况。然后，作者选取其中典型进行详细描述和理论分析，从中找出几位翻译大家在英译《红楼梦》时，针对园林类专有名词所采用的翻译策略以及异同。研究发现，英译这类汉语专名时，杨译本以直译法为主，而霍译本则多为替换法;此外，英译中国典籍中的汉语专名时，音译方法不可取，因为这些专名往往带有双关或隐喻义;作者由此归纳出英译汉语专有名词，尤其是文学作品中的汉语专名的一般策略，即直译法、替换法、解释法、增译法、减译法等。
