Agent-based technologies are identified as new software-development approaches with a potential significant impact on supply chain management solutions. Supply chains are defined as a collection of business centers through which products pass at various stages of completion from the provision of raw materials to final sales. Areas of opportunity for agent-based approaches are explored in support of developing general advanced manufacturing systems.
