The raw water of Huangpu River was treated by ozonation and biological activated carbon (BAC) process. The change of molecular weight (MW) distributions of dissolved organic matters (DOM) was investigated in raw water and after each treatment units. The result shows that the dissolved organics in Huangpu River were mainly with small molecular weight. Ozonation is more effective to the large MW organics than to the smaller ones. Coagula-tion, sedimentation and filtration treatment are effective in removing organics with MW larger than 3kDa, but they are ineffective in removing organics with MW smaller than 3kDa. The BAC can effectively remove organics with MW 3k~1kDa and smaller than 1KDa. There is a good complementary relationship between the ozonation and BAC absorption. So the process can greatly enhance the removal efficiency of dissolved organics.
