The influence of deformation by wiredrawing on the behavior of the pearlitic structure in a high carbon steel was investigated using Atomic Force Microscopy. The technique employed allowed the observation of some important features associated with the plastic deformation of cementite, such as micro-folding, shearing and necking of the lamellae. The microstructure evolution for reductions of area between 17% and 92% was characterized in terms of the average interlamellar spacing, average angle between pearlite lamellae and the direction of drawing and the mean deviations in these two parameters.
