The paper presents a comprehensive study of the dynamic properties of coarse volcanic soilsrn(pumice) in a wide range of shear strain amplitudes, including torsional resonant column and cyclic triaxial tests.rnSix fully saturated samples of variable mean grain size and with relative densities in a range of Dr ≈93–98%rnwere tested. The effects of shear strain amplitude, γ, mean effective confining stress, σ′m, mean grain size, D50,rnand coefficient of uniformity, Cu, on shear modulus and material damping, were examined. The amplitude ofrnthe applied mean stress, σ′m, ranged from 25 kPa to 200 kPa and the imposed shear strains ranged from aboutrn10−4%to 1%. The imposed loading frequency in the cyclic triaxial tests was equal to 0.5 Hz, while the maximumrnnumber of loading cycles for given strain amplitudes was equal to 10.
