Heinrich-Nordhoff School inWolfsburg, Germany, was built in 1971/72 as a concrete building.rnIn 2013, the roof of the existing building was opened and over 2 floors a skylight roof was built with a supportingrntree structure from circular hollow sections. The building is characterized by a high light penetration into therninterior of the building. The reconstruction work required an intervention into the existing load transfer. Thernsignificant incision into the building had to be done by additional supports (steel frames) as well as a glassrnroof supported by a tree structure. This reconstruction may be and attractive example of how to insure a highrnpenetration into the interior of the building. A special focus, within the welded tree structure was put on thernformation of the nodes during the static design.A nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of the nodes, including thernwelding simulation, was carried out in order to study the behavior of complex joints under loading in presencernof residual stresses.
