A Modular Stabilization Approach For Chattering-Free Simulation

Some hybrid models exhibit switching elements that can introduce chattering behavior leading to inefficient simulations. Simulations may even become impossible, in the cases where the switching occurs infinitely often. In this paper we present a solution based on model stabilization to avoid chattering, making it possible to perform efficient simulations. The stabilization approach is described in the HYFLOW formalism that enables a modular solution to the representation of switching models based on a dynamic topologies. Stabilization is compared with a more conventional solution based on on-off digital controllers. A temperature controlled system is provided for demonstrating the accuracy and efficiency of the stabilization approach.
