High-pressure components review at Ffestiniog pump storage power station

The Ffestiniog Pump Storage Power Station is situated near Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales, U.K. Commisioned in 1965, the station continues to operate in turbine and pump mode, resulting in frequent pressurisations and depressurisations. Since the station started operation the units have undergone approximately 90,000 turbine pressurisations, which is considered to be a typical design. In 1996 First Hydro as new owners commissioned G.E. Energy (UK) Ltd (formally Kvaerner Boving) to undertake a study into continued life of the station.
