The chemical element contents of coastal sand were investigated usingrnX-Ray Fluorescence analysis (XRF). The sand samples were collectedrnon beaches along the Omotehama Coast facing the Pacific Ocean. Thernresults of XRF and shoreline position (beach width) were compared tornexamine the usefulness of XRF on coastal survey. In the all samplingrnlocations, Fe (Iron) was detected and the content of Fe is highest inrncomparison with that of other elements at each location. The relationrnbetween the Fe existence in sand and sediment characteristics wasrnexamined. The alongshore distribution of Fe content corresponded tornthe change of beach width. It was indicated that Fe is one of importantrnand representative elements for coastal survey by XRF.
