The increasing demand for FTTH network to MDUs (Multiple Dwelling Units) in recent years stimulated the development of small size low-friction indoor cables and the efficient technology to use existing conduits has been established. However, when cables are applied to MDUs with no available conduits, creating a hole in the wall for drawing an optical fiber into a dwelling may be required. Creating a hole causes an increase in the construction cost. Therefore, we developed new indoor cables which can be drawn into a dwelling from the interspace of doors or windows. These new indoor cables have optimized configurations and structures to be installed through the small interspaces. By using ITU-T G.657 B3 compliant Hole-Assisted Fibers (HAF), the new indoor cables have little or no increase in optical loss even though the new indoor cables are bent around the sharp corners of door buck or window frame. These cables make it possible to achieve the drawing optical fiber into the dwelling without creating a hole in the wall.
