Ginkgo polyprenols (GP) were separated from ginkgo leaves by saponification, solvent refrigeration, molecular distillation and column chromatography, then evaluated the protective effects of GP on chronic liver injury induced by CCl4 and acute liver injury induced by D-galactosamine in rats.In contrast to Essentiale and Bifendate, the enzymic levels of ALT and AST were investigated in serum, and the content of hydroxyproline and collagen as well as the pathomorphology were analysized in liver tissues. The results showed that groups administrated with different dosages of GP, Essentiale and bifendate group, could remarkedly reduce the levels of serum ALT and AST for CCl4 model (P<0. 05) and D-galactosamine model( P<0. 001), decline the content of hydroxyproline and collagen (P<0. 05) and decrease the degree of damage in liver tissues (P<0.01), especially as the dose of GP over 40mg/kg, GP showed better effect than Essentiale group(P<0. 05).Therefore GP have good resistant effects on liver injury and hepatic fibrosis.
