Streamer type gas discharges may occur in gas inclusions in solid insulators which are subjected tornan electric field. These gas inclusions are formed by the manufacturing process or e.g. byrnthermomechanical ageing which may loosen the contact of an insulating material and a conductorrn(delamination).rnDischarge current, temporal development, charge, statistical influences, time lags etc depend on thernshape of the gas inclusion, on the gas nature and on the conductivity resp. physical properties of thernboundary of the inclusion.
