Investigation of greenwater occurrence on the Terra NovarnFPSO, included a model test program, extensive analysis asrnwell as a series of numerical simulations. Wave periodrn(spectral peak period), Vessel heading, and Vessel draft werernthe three most important parameters identified to havernsignificant effect on greenwater occurrence. Their effects onrngreenwater occurrence frequency and height are extensivelyrnanalyzed. Variation in greenwater height and the frequency ofrnoccurrence along Vessel’s longitudinal and transverserndirection was also investigated. The findings were used forrndesign and engineering of the Terra Nova FPSO and may bernuseful for design consideration of greenwater problem forrnother FPSOs.rnTo further assess the possibility of greenwater occurrence, arnsimple probability analysis was performed. Such analysis canrnhelp decision making in a quantitative way. The analysis effortrnconcentrated on the heading distribution which is a criticalrnpart of the probability assessment.rnA practical procedure is outlined for the designrnconsideration of greenwater. The procedure is based onrncurrent industry practice and experience with the Terra NovarnFPSO design. Some future possible improvement andrndevelopment to this procedure is also proposed and discussed.
