Studies have been undertaken to examine the effectiveness of using computer assisted teaching and learning in a variety of courses and programs at Rutgers University. Over the past two years, ten technology initiatives have been funded for the purpose of improving teaching and learning. Projects have been funded in biology, communications, engineering, geography, and music. A set of common learning outcomes has been developed across all projects. Specific learning outcomes for each project have also been identified. A consistent result in all projects is that students value the improved communications and interactions that web based technologies bring to the classroom. There is also evidence that learning and retention of information have been improved. The cost and cost effectiveness of these projects is also under investigation.
