Cobalt and iron macrocycles have been studied as catalysts for oxygen electroreduction reaction. Co-N_4-marcrocycles adsorbed on carbon surfaces have been found to catalyze the 2-electron reduction of O_2 to H_2O_2 in both alkaline and acid solutions, while Fe-N4-marcrocyles catalyze the overall 4-electron reduction in alkaline solutions. Fe and Co macrocycles electrocatalysts have potential to be used for electrochemical power devices such as fuel cells and metal-air batteries.
