A firm understanding of the scattering behavior of terahertz waves is important for the development of remote sensing and imaging systems. Due to the relatively short wavelengths of terahertz waves, materials that could be considered smooth at microwave band may begin to display rough surface in the terahertz band. A 0.44 THz radar system was built in this paper, and imaging experiments based on a wide-angle imaging method were carried out. From the imaging results, the transition of scattering characteristics from smooth plate to rough plate is clearly visible, which is consistent with the fact that as the roughness increases, there is an overall increase in diffuse scattering.
