Recently, the advanced oxidation process (AOP) has been regarded as one of treatment processes for non-biodegradable hazardous wastewater because of reinforced environmental regulations. In this study, non-biodegradable wastewater was dissociated by advanced oxidation process using AC-pulsed discharge in water. This apparatus consisted of 1N/m3 reactor, plate-plate type electrodes, and 5.6kW AC pulsed power supply. Various active species (O, H and OH radicals etc) formed by AC-pulsed discharge in water may play an important role in the degrading of organic compound. Active species were analyzed by optical emission spectra and FT-IR. The authors studied variable discharge conditions for radical formation and the degradation effects of radical in nonbiodegradable wastewater.
