(Chapter 3) Best practices for reusing recycled treated wastewater through low pressure Reverse Osmosis (ro) energy recovery

The Orange County Water District's (OCWD) Advanced WaterPurification Facility (AWPF) located in California is part of theGroundwater Recharge (GWR) System that has been operatingsince January 2008, recycling treated wastewater secondaryeffluent (SE).The GWR System supplements existing water supplies byproviding reliable, high-quality source of water to recharge theOrange County Groundwater Basin (Basin) and protects theBasin from further degradation due to seawater intrusion. Byrecycling water, the GWR System also provides peak wastewaterflow disposal relief and indefinitely postpones the need forOrange County Sanitation District (OCSD) to construct a newocean outfall by diverting treated wastewater flows.
