Protein growth factors may provide neuroprotection,however,most often those molecules exhibit limited brain bioavailability.Thus,the development of proteins as neuroprotective drugs requires methods of gene therapy,cell transplantation and slow release implanted pumps.Peptide snippets of large molecules may offer a substitute provided they capture some of the protective activity that is attributed to the parent protein.The example that we are concentrating on is activity-dependent neuroprotective protein(ADNP)and the peptide NAP(Asn-Ala-Pro-Val-Ser-lle-Pro-Gln;single-letter code:NAPVSIPQ).
