This study examines the potential change in emissions and energy use from replacing convention fossil-fuel based vehicles with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.This study analyzes three different hydrogen production scenarios to determine their resultant change in emissions and energy usage:hydrogen produced via 1) coal gasification,2) steam reforming of methane,or 3) electrolysis powered by wind energy.The net changes in emission are derived using regional emission inventories,including the US EPA's National Emission Inventory,and a Process Chain Analysis (PCA) for the different hydrogen production scenarios.The different emission scenarios were applied in a 3-D numerical model to look at the resulting effects on air pollution.
