Shipping Zone Automation in Radomiro Tomic

Codelco and its divisions are carrying out a transformation process to continue contributing to thedevelopment of Chile. Radomiro Tomic Division -materializing its strategic map- is integratingautomation into its processes, designing and carrying out technology transfer and relying on itssuppliers in other industries. One of the major projects implemented was the automation of themovement of copper cathodes in the shipping farm where, together with increasing productivity, theapplication of "high hierarchy" in accident management is carried out, eliminating high-riskactivities.Some important key learning points of this project, it is important to have an active client role fromthe beginning, participate from the basic designs with the supplier and verify that the pre-existingfacilities have the necessary requirements for the operation of the technology.This article consists of showing the results obtained during 8 months of operation where it is possibleto capture a saving of 10 % and the elimination of 100 % of manual activities, doubling productivity,the lessons learned, identifying risks, alliances with the stakeholders and being able to remove theparadigms that exist within the company.
