摘要

This Paper explains how environmental benefits are being optimised against cost through integrated catchment modelling on a multi-billion dollar capital investment programme in North West England. The Paper outlines the development of cost effective solutions to the problems being caused by Unsatisfactory Intermittent Discharges (UIDs) from the wastewater network. These solutions are being obtained by means of detailed modelling of the wastewater networks, along with the modelling of the relevant parts of the wastewater treatment works and the receiving watercourses. The Paper then focuses on the work being undertaken to solve the problems of a group of key UIDs in the city of Manchester and concludes with an explanation of how the overall programme of works is being delivered within its 5-year regulatory timeframe.
