The carp were exposed ot various concentrations(1,5,10,25,50,100,200mug/L and 1,2.5,5,10,20,40, 80mug/L) of methylmeroury chloride (MMC)for 24 h or for one week. High concentrations of MMC (50mug/L for 24 h and 20 mug/L for 1 week) significantly increased plasma concentration of potassium and magnesium, but decreased sodium and chloide. The phosphate levels do not indicate a clear trend. However, a deorease of calcium was significant only with exposure to the ighest concentrations(200mug/L for 24 h and 40 mug/L for 1 week). The decline tendency of the plasma osmolarity appaared in the mercury treated fish at the osmolarity appeared in the mercury treated fish at the highest dosages of MMC used. The activity of Na-K-ATPase in the gill filaments mitochondria were inhibited by meroury treated fish at concentrations of 25mug/L and 50mug/L were used for only the 24 h group.
