Design and Implementation of a Novel Testbed for Automotive Security Analysis

Modern automobiles offer convenient functions by deploying various modular components such as embedded controllers and electric devices. Along with this computerization of automobiles, there has been an increasing concern about the possibility of various security threats through external accesses due to the deployment of external sensors and communication networks to be used in the autonomous driving for example. Development of V2X environment as well as the intelligence of the internal system of a vehicle is becoming another concern, which can cause a direct impact on our lives. In case of a traffic accident, it is required to log up the internal network of the vehicle and analyze the resulted data to find the causes of the accident such as physical defect, driver carelessness or external attack. In this paper, we introduce design and implementation of an emulating internal vehicular network as a testbed that can be used to perform an intuitive analysis on the data set collected from the real vehicular network for different situations and replayed through the testing environment similar to an actual vehicle.
