Wastewater treatment plants considered one of the biggest energy consumers in the state of Wisconsin.A walk-through energy audit has been conducted by the Industrial Assessment Center(IAC)at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for 11 WWTPs at several locations in Wisconsin,to identify the most energy consuming equipment and energy consumption breakdown.Different energy-saving and emission reduction recommendations have been suggested for the WWTPs.It also found that up to 37,051,500 kWh,and 7,106,100 kWh of energy reduction,and $2,015,340,and $354,900 of cost savings for using variable frequency drives(VFDs),and more efficient lighting,respectively.The average payback period of different energy saving recommendations was around five years.Along with the energy and cost savings,it was also found that a potential amount of GHGs emissions can be reduced for different energy saving recommendations applied in WWTPs.
