Synthesis of Ketimines from Ketones and N,N- Bis(trimethylsilyl)anilines Catalyzed by Vanadium Complexes

Ketimines are highly important intermediates in organic synthesis for synthesizing various ?-branched amines by their reduction and nucleophilic addition. Condensation of amines with ketones is a well-established methodology for preparing ketimines in the presence of dehydrating reagents or Lewis acids as well as azeotropic dehydoration; however, the synthesis of ketimine often requires not only rather harsh reaction conditions and prolonged reaction times, but also strong dehydrating reagents for improving the product yield.
