Highly functionalized aromatic compounds are useful as synthetic building blocks for various functional materials. The unsaturated alicyclic hydrocarbons such as 1,4-cyclohexadiene (3) and cyclohexene derivatives (3’), which are easily prepared by Diels-Alder reaction between 1,3-dienes (1) and alkynes (2)/alkenes (2’), can be transformed to arenes (4).
