Synthesis of a Quinoline Amide Dye with a Boronic Acid-Grafting Group and its Application to Chemosensors

The development of fluorescence chemosensors for transition metal detection in water has been attained by numerous efforts for practical applications.1,2) Among metal transitions, zinc plays a vital role in several biological processes. Indeed, any deviation level of zinc can be harmful to water organism.3,4) Although a number of chemosensors have been reported so far, development of Zn2+ selective systems workable in 100% water is still challenge. With this in mind, we have envisaged that boronate microparticles, composed of polymeric 3-benzo- 2,4,8,10-tetraoxa-3,9-diboraspiro[5,5]undecane, would be useful for the sensing platform5) because they are stably dispersed in water. Accordingly, sensing unit grafted on the surface could be workable in water.
