An efficient approach to suppress the mutual coupling of a three-element microstrip patch array and a four-element microstrip patch array is proposed using waveguided band-gap structure (WG-BGS). The waveguided band-gap structure are realized by crossed-meander-line slits, which exhibit band-gap property. By inserting the WG-BGS between the elements of coupled patch arrays, the mutual coupling of the three-element patch array has been reduced effectively within the -10dB bandwidth (from 3.43 to 3.58GHz), and a maximum value of 13dB has been achieved at 3.5GHz. The mutual coupling of the four-element patch array has been reduced effectively within the -10dB bandwidth (from 3.43 to 3.57GHz), and a maximum value of 11dB has been also achieved at 3.5GHz.
