Study on protective effects of electroacupuncture on mouse liver fibrosis

Objective: to observe the effects of electro-acupuncture on preventing hepatic fibrosis induced by CCI4 in mouse. Methods: Mouse was randomly allocated into four groups. Hepatic fibrotic model was induced by CC14. The electro-acupuncture group treated with electro-acupuncture since mouse exposure CC14. Liver tissue and blood samples of all mice were examined by light and elecrto microscopy. The ALT and AST levels in plasma were detected by automatic biochemistry analyzers. The HA, LN, PCIII, CIV were assayed by radioimmunoassay. Relaxin and TGF-beta1 in liver tissue were detected by ELISA. Results: Electro-acupuncture significantly attenuated the degree of liver fibrosis and decreased the level of ALT, AST, HA, LN, PCIII and CIV compared with model group (p < 0.05). While the TGF-beta1 was significantly lower than that in model group (p < 0.05), the expression of relaxin of electro-acupuncture group was significantly higher than that in model group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Electro-acupuncture had inhibitory effect on liver fibrosis.
