Lightning detection network is composed of many distributed systems. The data transmission among them is one of the most important fundaments to guarantee its operation and management. According to its characteristics, the requirements of the data transmission for lightning detection network are analyzed in this paper, and then a corresponding data transmission scheme is proposed. In this scheme, two types of data transmission modes such as manual transmission mode and automatic transmission mode are adopted so as to reduce the processing time of data transmission, and a process control platform, which is based on the send/response principle, is constructed to ensure the security and stability of data transmission. Finally, a prototype system based on this data transmission scheme is developed and applied to Wuhan lightning detection network in China. It is shown that the data transmission scheme for lightning detection network proposed in this paper is safe, efficient, and real-time.
