The RIBOLUTION (RIBOnucleic acid-based diagnostic soLUTIONs) R&D consortium led by the Fraunhofer Society aims at identifying and validating novel biomarkers for various diseases. To address the high clinical need of biomarkers for early diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa), we conducted an unbiased transcriptome-wide expression study to identify and characterize novel biomarkers. Long non-protein coding RNAs (lncRNAs) exhibit tissue- and disease-specific expression patterns and represent promising biomarker candidates. Therefore, lncRNAs represented a particular focus of our study.
