This study aimed to investigate the anti-radiation effects of exogenous nucleotides on mouse spleen lymphocytes against UVC radiation. By generating an irradiation effect model, we determined 30 s UVC-radiation with the intensity of 1.20 J/(m~2 s) as the test radiation dose. All tested nucleotides inhibited UVC-induced lethal effect and this effect showed a dose-respond relationship in the scope of selected concentration using methylthiazole tetrazolium (MTT) assay. The OliveTailMoment of the cells exposed to UVC decreased significantly when the concentration of nucleotides was increased, which was agreed with MTT results. Moreover, considering UVC can induce oxidative damage in cell, the antioxidant activity of nucleotides was evaluated. The results showed that all tested nucleotides had a scavenging capacity to hydroxy radical and the inhibitory effect to the lipid and protein peroxidation. The present study provided an insight into the protection mechanisms of exogenous nucleotides against UVC-radiation from their anti-oxidant effects and their possible applications in radiation protection.
