Carbon dioxide(CO2)emissions are widely recognized as one of the most significant contributors to global climate change.To reduce CO2 emissions,multiple strategies are being considered, including the improvement of fuel economy,the utilization of renewable energy resources and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS).1Alternatively,as a new strategy to tackle this challenge, electrochemical conversion of CO2 into valuable chemicals such as carbon monoxide(CO),formic acid,methanol,and ethylene is being considered.This strategy not only reduces CO2 emissions but also provides economic value by utilizing excess electrical energy generated by intermittent renewable energy resources.
