Numerical modeling of high temperature superconductors (HTSs) has become an important and popular topic in the superconductivity research. A numerical model of HTS is recognized as a useful tool to understand the physical mechanisms and calculate the AC loss of superconductors. In this paper, a finite element method (FEM) numerical model of HTS is established based on H-formulation and solved by the finite element software Comsol Multiphysics. The electromagnetic characteristics are qualitatively analyzed and the AC losses are calculated at different external magnet fields and transport currents. The results are in good agreement with the existing analytic models (Brandt model and Norris model) at common conditions. The AC loss is also calculated for more complex conditions.
