Analysis on the Impact of FDI on Regional Innovation in China from the Perspective of Big Data

Based on the balanced panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2003 to 2016, this paper studies the impact of FDI on the innovation ability of China's provinces through an econometric model. The results show that FDI has a significant positive U-shaped effect on the quantity of provincial innovation, and there are localization phenomena. However, according to the results of characteristic facts, FDI basically has a positive U-shaped effect on innovation quality of provinces, but in the central provinces represented by Heilongjiang, FDI has an inverted U-shape effect on innovation quality. At the same time, it is found that the relationship between FDI and innovation depends on the R&D expenditure, the level of economic development and the degree of knowledge protection in each province. More attention should be paid to the quality of FDI introduction and corresponding measures should be taken to promote innovation.
