For the purposes of the paper, a three-dimensional geometric structure of a biomaterial surface was reconstructed well above an individual field of view using a laser confocal microscope and systematic scanning. The entire analysed area was divided using a square grid with regular component fields in both columns and rows. Adjacent subsurfaces were measured in such a way as to retain a 20% overlapping area. Individual sub-images were always measured with the same resolution of 4096 x 4096 pixels. The resulting image, after stitching sub-images, was a multiple of this size. The procedure resulted in a gigapixel map of surface topography, which enabled three-dimensional observation of the material surface geometry as well as measurements and additional analyses of the surface morphology.
